Signal Becomes Hacked Victim – Phone Number 1900 Affected Users

 


Signal announced this morning that they have been the victim of a hacker attack through their Twilio service that sends SMS verification of the identity of platform users. The attack was detected earlier this month and they now believe the phone numbers of 1900 platform users are feared to have been accessed by the attackers.



They however say contact lists, message content, profile information and various other personal data are not accessible to hackers. Affected users' phone numbers could potentially be used by hackers to register accounts on new devices without permission.


Therefore Signal recommends users to activate the Registration Lock feature that prevents the account from being registered to another device at any time. Vulnerabilities in Twilio systems have been patched
