Apple opposes in-app advertising tracking through the ATT feature introduced last year. After it was introduced it caused Facebook to experience billions of dollars in losses. All this is done by Apple in the name of wanting to improve the privacy of their device users. But according to a Bloomberg report today, Apple wants to double their advertising revenue of around $4 billion a year to double digits in the near future.
This will be done by increasing the amount of advertising in their application. In the App Store developers can buy advertising slots so that the application is displayed more prominently on the front page of the store. When the application search is done, developers can also place their application at the top once in a special slot for users to see.
At this time ads are also displayed in the Stock and News applications although one of them is a paid subscription. Advertisements may later appear in the Podcasts and Books applications. The display of ads in Maps is also reportedly being tested. This tactic used by Apple is similar to what Google has been doing for a long time.
Apple device users have been given the ability to block their personal data from being used for targeted advertising purposes in iOS 15.
