Canalys – SEA Smartphone Production Declines 7% In Q2 2022

What is the state of smart devices in the Southeast Asian region? According to the latest report from Canalys, it is also shrinking as is the case in China and Europe. Smartphone production in Southeast Asia decreased by 7% in Q2 2022 compared to Q1 2022. A total of 24.5 smartphones were shipped to the SEA market in the April-June 2022 period.

Although device shipments are shrinking, Samsung is still ahead with 5.7 million devices followed by Oppo (4.4 million), Xiaomi (4 million), Vivo (3.2 million) and Realme (2.6 million). The truth is that BBK Electronics is the region's largest phone manufacturer with 10.2 million devices shipped last quarter. Of the most interesting is that only 18% of smartphones shipped to the Southeast Asian market support 5G networks.

Samsung is still strong in the three main markets of Southeast Asia but in Malaysia they have been beaten by Xiaomi and in the Philippines they are in fifth place. It is clear that the dominance of devices from China is becoming more evident in the Southeast Asian market.
