DARPA Wants to Develop Inter-Satellite Communications Terminal, Connecting Different Satellite Networks

With the development of aerospace, one of the things we have seen lately is the rush of launching satellites into space. These are mainly low-orbit satellites, by companies like SpaceX, Amazon, OneWeb and so on.

With the presence of many satellite objects in space, one of the things that is still not resolved is the relationship and communication between these satellite networks. DARPA is seen wanting to overcome this through Space-BACN (Space Based Adaptive Communications Node).

Now, DARPA is forming a group of researchers and developers in developing Space-BACN, which wants to create an "internet" for satellites in low orbit, allowing them to communicate with each other.

By forming this standard, it is expected to further simplify the communication process between satellites, in addition to enabling the implementation of satellite-based internet transmission better for satellite companies and also users.

For the initial stage of this first phase, DARPA says it will take about 14 months to design the technical aspects, including the interface between the systems. We may hear more about this project in a year or so.
