Old Samsung Galaxy J7 HP Gets Software Update

Samsung promises its new phones will get four years of operating system updates and five years of security updates. But surprisingly the South Korean tech giant gave an update on the old Galaxy J7.

The Galaxy J7 was released by Samsung in 2015, this means that the phone is already 7 years old. Previously, Samsung phones received updates up to two years after they were released.

The update for the Galaxy J7 has been delivered by Samsung to users in several regions in Asia. There are two firmware versions provided, J700FXXU4BVG2 (for SM-J700F model) / J700HXXU3BVG2 (for SM-J700H model).

The update brings GPS stability improvements to the phone. Unfortunately, the update package doesn't seem to increase the security patch level.

The SM-J700F model last received a security update in April 2018, while the SM-J700H was in August 2017. This also marks the end of support for the Galaxy J7.

In addition to GPS fixes, these OTA-delivered updates may provide protection against critical bugs or security exploits. That's why the software is patched for some people out there who are still using the phone.

Make sure this latest firmware does not change the Android OS version. The aforementioned Galaxy J7 model is still running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
