Samsung Introduces Repair Mode To Ensure Device Data Is Safe When Repaired

There is concern that personal data stored in the device is stolen when it is sent to a customer service center for repair. There have been several high-profile cases involving embarrassing photos of Indonesian and Hong Kong artists being leaked onto the web after being stolen from their repaired devices.

To ease the worry, some are willing to perform a device reset to prevent this from happening to them. For Samsung users this will no longer be an issue with the introduction of Repair Mode.

Through Repair Mode, personal data in the form of pictures, text, accounts and applications cannot be accessed. At first glance it looks like a newly purchased device. This feature is accessed through the Battery and Device Care settings. It has already been given to Galaxy S21 users in Korea first and it will be expanded to other models and markets in the near future.
