Twitter has been diligently testing out new features lately. The newest feature they're testing is Status, which at first glance looks like a feature on an old-school social media platform.
This status looks like a badge above the tweet. Some of the statuses to choose from include 'Spoiler alert', 'Shower thoughts', 'Picture of the Day', and the slightly less useful 'Current status'.
Currently Twitter users can not create their own status alias custom. Users can only choose from a list of statuses provided by Twitter.
"For a limited time, we're testing a feature that allows you to add status topics from a predefined list to your Tweets to provide more context for your followers," said a Twitter spokesperson. /2022).
"So whether you're sharing a Twitter thread, sharing a thought, or having a bad Monday, your tweets can convey what you're going through."
Twitter confirmed that the trial was limited to the United States and Australia, but did not specify how large the group was involved in the trial.
This feature was previously discovered by application researcher Jane Manchun Wong. At that time Status can be pinned in a user's tweet or profile. But in this latest trial, Status can only be entered in one tweet.
If one of these Statuses is clicked, the user can see other tweets that use the same words. But it looks like this section is not being moderated by Twitter because some users who took part in this trial claimed to find some pornographic content when clicking on one of the statuses.
Some Twitter users have complained that this new feature is considered useless. Most also equate it with features that already exist in older social media such as MySpace, LiveJournal, and AIM.
Twitter is currently testing a lot of features at the same time, which makes users dizzy. Some of them are Collab Tweets, Twitter Circle, and downvoting which has been tested for a long time but not yet rolled out.
It is not yet known when Twitter will release the Status feature. Usually a limited trial like this is done to find out how the user reacts, and if it doesn't live up to expectations, this feature may be canceled.
