MIX Fold 2 was officially announced by Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun during his annual speech. This folding screen cellphone carries powerful specifications, so it becomes a strong opponent of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 which was launched globally yesterday.
The MIX Fold 2 has a design language that is no different from the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The inner screen can be folded, using an 8.02-inch Samsung Eco² OLED 120Hz LTPO 2.0 panel. Xiaomi equips the screen with Schott UTG glass for added durability. Peak brightness is rated at 1,300 nits.
While the outer screen carries a 6.56-inch Samsung E5 AMOLED FHD + panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz. There is Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support on both screens. Xiaomi also provides Gorilla Glass Victus protection for the outer screen.
Talking about the folding mechanism is quite interesting. The MIX Fold 2 applies the Micro Waterdrop hinge developed by Xiaomi, with only 87 components. Compared to other folding phones which have a thickness of about 11mm and 12mm, the thickness of the Mix Fold 2's hinge is only 8.8mm.
Its weight is claimed to be reduced by 35%, and its internal space utilization rate is about 20% higher than most foldable phones, the company said. When opened, it is only 5.4mm thick.
To eliminate creases on the screen, Xiaomi has added a one-piece carbon fiber floating plate on the hinge. When the phone is opened, the flexible panel and the outer UTG glass lift for a more even finish.
The kitchen runway MIX Fold 2 is similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 4, combining the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset with 12GB LPDDR5 RAM. But Xioami includes a cooling system in the form of a VC vapor chamber, boron nitride and better heat dissipation graphite sheet.
No less interesting is the camera, Xiaomi collaborates with Leica. The Mix Fold 2 gets Leica Authentic and Vibrant photography styles as well as several Leica filters.

The phone has a 50MP main camera with IMX766, a 13MP ultra wide camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera with 2X optical zoom. There's a 20MP camera on the front, but the inner screen lacks a camera.
The Mix Fold 2 packs a 4,500mAh battery with 67W fast wired charging. The phone runs MIUI Fold 13 over Android 12.

The Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 comes in Black and Gold colors. This folding screen cellphone will go on sale on August 16, 2022.
Samsung does not need to worry that the MIX Fold 2 will become a serious threat to the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Because Xiaomi has not planned to release its new cellphone to the global market.
