Artificial intelligence like DALL.E and Midjourney are powerful enough to generate images based only on text provided by the user. A variety of images that have so far required the expertise of a painter can be generated quickly. This opens up some moral questions about intellectual rights and what is the meaning of art if it is not produced by a human being.
Getty Images this week announced they will no longer allow images generated by artificial intelligence to be uploaded or sold through their site. This is because they do not want to deal with the issue of intellectual property owners of the images produced.
There have been some issues with images produced by artificial intelligence imitating the drawing style of leading artists. Because it is trained using images of real artists, should the intellectual property of the generated images be attributed to the original artist?
