GIPHY : GIFs Are Less Popular Among Young Users

GIPHY, one of the popular GIF-focused search engines, has now told competition bodies in the UK that GIFs are becoming less popular as a form of content – especially among Gen Z users.

GIPHY shared this with the authorities there, asking the authorities to confirm and authorize Meta's purchase of GIPHY.

Previously, UK authorities blocked Meta's purchase of GIPHY, saying it would give Meta a monopoly on the GIF market. Today, it is already integrated on Instagram, Whatsapp and even Facebook.

In addition, GIPHY also said that the rate of new GIF uploads is decreasing, in addition to the number of GIF usage through their platform also experiencing a decrease.

However, there are some different comments from users around the world. Some say that compared to GIPHY, the Tenor integration used on platforms like Discord is more interesting and offers easier uploading facilities.

Tenor is a GIF platform owned by Google. Google hasn't shared any recent data regarding upload and usage rates – making it hard to know whether GIPHY is a product that's becoming less popular, or whether it's true that GIF usage rates are declining.
