The Northrop Grumman B-21 Raider is a new generation bomber aircraft that has been developed since 2015. Various information about this project is still secret but it has been confirmed to have a flying wing design like the Northrop B-2 Spirit and is more difficult to detect by radar.
In addition to better performance, this aircraft has the ability to fly with a human pilot and swatter when necessary. It will also be able to operate with drone systems being developed by the USAF. The ability to carry nuclear weapons is maintained but enhanced with smart weapons that can hang out in airspace before destroying the target.
Northrop Grumman aims for the aircraft to make its first flight in 2023 with it starting operations in 2025. Six prototype aircraft are being built in Palmdale. It will replace the aging B-2 Spirit and B-1 Lancer stealth bombers.
