NVIDIA DRIVE Thor Chip Launched With Capability To Control All Vehicle Systems

At the GTC event, NVIDIA not only announced their latest graphics cards that will make PC video games even more powerful. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang also shared several platforms, artificial intelligence systems and NVIDIA DRIVE Thor chips for the company's latest automotive use.

NVIDIA DRIVE Thor is their latest automotive chip replacing the DRIVE Orin that has been used for years. DRIVE Thor is marketed as a super chip that can do all the tasks that have so far required more than one CPU in a vehicle.

With a processing capability of up to 2000 TOPS, future vehicle manufacturers can use just one DRIVE Thor for self-driving systems, infotainment, sensors, cabin climate control, electrics and more. In other words, the ECU system that requires dozens of chips is replaced by one Thor DRIVE.

Because of its high processing capabilities, DRIVE Thor can be directed to run Linux, QNX and Android operating systems simultaneously in a vehicle. NVIDIA aims for DRIVE Thor to be used by car manufacturers by 2025 just like the DRIVE Atlan chip with 1000 TOPS launched last year.
