The self-driving system on modern vehicles is getting smarter as it can avoid vehicles when it is detected to be about to collide, keep on the vehicle, apply emergency braking and follow the vehicle in front at a safe distance.
This year Volvo wants to go further with it will also introduce a system that detects the driver's attention level and stops the vehicle if it detects that their attention is distracted.
Two cameras in the cabin will always detect the driver's eyes. When a driver's attention is diverted from the road, algorithms can detect whether they may be using a device, drowsy or intoxicated.
Warnings will be given to pay attention to the road. If this fails to be followed the vehicle will be slowed down like stopping completely on the shoulder of the road. This new system will be used on the Volvo EX90 which will be launched this November.
