At the end of last week, Digital Nasional Berhad together with telecommunications companies Celcom, Digi and TM announced that they will acquire a stake, and at the same time target the commercial introduction of 5G services to their customers as early as this October.
Now, an extension of that, TheEdge now reports that all six have agreed to subscribe to 5G services from DNB.
This includes Maxis and also U Mobile which did not acquire any shareholding in DNB, but agreed to subscribe to 5G services from DNB.
DNB is already given permission to operate 5G services by developing infrastructure in Malaysia – and telecommunication companies need to subscribe from DNB to offer to end users.
Previously, it was delayed because there were several parties who did not agree with the implementation method of one provider. However, after going through various phases, the government has also started to offer a stake in DNB in providing more comfort to telecommunication companies in obtaining DNB services.
Today, DNB has developed infrastructure covering 33% of the populated area in Malaysia. Now, many are looking forward to integration with telecommunication companies before public users can enjoy the high-speed network.
For now, only YTL offers a 5G network through the telecommunications company YES.
