Are there a lot of Windows 11 users?

Windows 11 has been around for more than a year, but its popularity is still far from that of Windows 10. There are several surveys that show the number of users of Windows 11 compared to other versions of Windows. What was the result like?

Based on the latest Statcounter report, only one in six desktop PCs uses Windows 11, or about 16%. While Windows 10 controls three quarters of desktop PCs worldwide, or 75%.

The growth of Windows 11 is also fairly slow, for example in the October 2022 report, Windows 11 penetration was 15.44%, only growing 2% since September. While Windows 10 users only decreased by less than 1% in the same time span.

On the other hand, Windows 7 which is no longer supported by Microsoft is still used on 9.62 desktop PC devices, while the combination of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 has a market share of 3.14%. Only 0.39% of PCs are still using Windows XP.

There are still several other surveys that examine the same thing, but have different numbers for Windows 11. However, the numbers are relatively uniform for Windows 10 adoption. This may be due to the different methodologies used by each survey.

For example Steam, which shows that Windows 11 users make up less than a quarter of all PC users (including Mac and Linux). Steam also states that Windows 10 penetration is 68.91%, while Statcounter is 71.29%.

Steam uses a methodology based on 30 million Steam users, although not all of them participated in the survey. Meanwhile, Statcounter bases its report on about 5 billion pages on 1.5 million sites on the internet.

AdDuplex also has similar data, although the records are limited until June 2022. This AdDuplex data comes from 5000 applications in the Windows Store, which shows Windows 11 is used on 23.1% of PCs in the world. While the adoption of Windows 11 slopes faster than any version of Windows 10.

But the worst Windows 11 adoption data is from Lansweeper. From about 30 million workstations, according to them, Windows 11 adoption is only 2.61%, still lower than Windows 7 users who are still recorded at 3.38%.

The main cause of the low adoption of Windows 11 is thought to be high specification requirements. Windows 11 can only run on PCs that use a minimum of 8th generation Intel or AMD Zen 2 processors, and according to Lansweeper more than after that existing devices cannot meet these requirements, as quoted by us from Techspot, Monday (7/11/2022) .
