Meta introduced various safety features on Facebook and Instagram to prevent incidents of sexual harassment among their underage users. Now this security feature is further tightened to prevent this incident from happening.
First of all, users under 16 or 18 years old depending on the country are prevented from being contacted by adults by default. They also won't appear in adult users' People You May Know recommendations. Adults also cannot see the names of underage users who have been tagged in photos if they are not related to each other on Facebook.
The feature to report inappropriate or unwanted messages is also updated on Messenger. There is also a feature to block unknown users more easily. Restrict who can leave comments, view friend lists and filter tagged posts before they can be displayed on profiles.
Finally there is a feature to report if a personal photo that can be considered obscene is spread on the platform by the victim. Collaboration with several NGOs is also done by Meta to produce teaching materials for underage users to be aware of their rights if this happens.
