The technology restrictions imposed by the United States on Huawei are now in their third year and there is still no sign of ending. Because of this, Huawei is now starting the process of shrinking their operations in Europe according to a Politico report. Their operations previously based in Belgium have been moved to Germany.
The long-term move is to move all European market operations to Germany with other offices to be closed. The closure process has already been done with some of the top executives in the communications and public relations department having resigned since September 2021.
In addition to executives, the ranks of lobbyists used to ensure that Huawei equipment can continue to be used in Europe have also begun to be let go. This action was taken because the situation in the United States and the war in Europe made it difficult for the company to operate in Europe. The focus is now fully on the Chinese market with Huawei now bypassed by other companies such as Vivo, Oppo and Honor.
Since the technology restrictions were imposed, Huawei, which at one time almost overtook Samsung as the world's largest smartphone manufacturer, is now no longer listed as one of the five largest manufacturers. Until now they have not been able to produce 5G devices and had to stop the production of self-designed Kirin chips.
