The production of iPhones before the Christmas holiday season was further affected due to the riots that occurred at the Foxconn factory located in Zhengzhou. The factory workers reportedly rioted because they were not satisfied with the zero Covid policy which caused them to be trapped on campus as well as bonus payments which were claimed to be delayed.
Foxconn denied that bonus payments were delayed but said they were now contacting workers to ensure the same incident did not happen again. On Chinese social media, videos of workers fighting with authorities wearing PPE suits to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in China.
While other countries are opening up and leeway is being given to people to move, China is still insisting on imposing zero Covid measures which causes the entire building to be isolated if there is a positive case. Some cities are closed again to prevent contagion.
At the previous Foxconn factory, hundreds of workers fled when it was heard that they would be locked up due to a small number of positive cases. This has already caused the production of iPhone 14 to be affected which will only get worse if the rioting incident is not contained immediately.
