Niantic Showcases AR Headset Design Using Snapdragon AR2 Gen 1 Chip

The Snapdragon AR2 Gen 1 chip was announced early this morning at the Snapdragon Summit event. On this latest generation chip, the ability of artificial intelligence has increased almost 3x with power savings of up to 50%. Niantic, famous as the developer of Pokemon GO and Ingress, has shown their augmented reality (AR) headset design that uses this chip.

Previously, Niantic teased several AR headset designs that were never released. In the demo shown, wearers of this headset can see virtual objects that are realistically combined with the real world. This headset not only supports their own Lightship platform but also Snapdragon Spaces by Qualcomm.

Qualcomm's expertise in imaging, artificial intelligence and networking is combined with Niantic's mapping and virtual reality expertise in this unique headset.
