The Meaning of the Microsoft Name and Its History, Must Know!

Microsoft is familiar to many, as the most widely used computer operating system. However, do you know the meaning of the name Microsoft and its history?

So in the 1970s, when Microsoft didn't exist yet, its two founders, Bill Gates and his best friend Paul Allen, were busy starting it. Well, they develop what is called a microcomputer or microprocessor and software.

Thus, the two prefixes of the field they were involved in were combined and became the name Microsoft. As quoted by us from Windows Central, Friday (11/4/2022) Paul Allen was the first to come up with the idea for the name.

"When we signed our first contract, we called ourselves Paul Allen and Bill Gates was doing business as Micro-Soft," Bill Gates said in an interview with Forbes magazine.

In the same interview, Paul Allen recounts his brief history. "We were talking about a lot of different names and at some point I said well, obviously the name would be Microsoft," said Paul.

"We also mentioned names like Outcorporated Inc and Unlimited Inc, but it was just kidding. We also talked a lot about what to call it Allen & Gates, but decided it wasn't a good idea," Bill Gates said.

"Yes, because companies like DEC and IBM are not named after people, they will have a long life and identity beyond their founders," Allen replied.

"And it (Allen & Gates-ed) feels like a law firm or a consulting firm. So we chose Microsoft before we even had a company to name," concluded Bill Gates. So that's the meaning of the name Microsoft and its origin.
