There was a lot of talk about an augmented reality (AR) headset from Apple that was believed to be launched early next year before reports emerged saying it would be delayed as well. Latest in a Bloomberg report, Apple is predicted to launch this AR headset in early 2023.
The operating system used is xrOS replacing the name realityOS that was rumored before. The headset will have support for displaying 3D videos, do eye tracking and will also have its own 3D world. Even so, Apple refuses to call this virtual world a metacity as Meta has done.
So far many companies have announced their metacity world aspirations with Meta being the furthest ahead. Even so, the use of the metamesta platform is still very low with other platforms such as Decentraland only having a few tens of thousands of monthly users. Meta itself had problems popularizing Horizon Worlds due to the still relatively expensive Meta Quest headset.
