Axiata Group Berhad and Telenor Asia Pte Ltd today announced that the merger of telecommunications companies Celcom and Digi has finally been successfully completed. The new company Celcom Digi will start operations starting tomorrow 1 December 2022. Through this merger, Celcom Digi becomes Malaysia's largest telecommunications company with over 20 million customers.
Through the agreement between the two companies, Axiata and Telenor will each hold 33.1% of Celcom Digi shares with the remaining 33.8% held by EPF, PNB KWAP and other shareholders. The merger of the two companies was announced in 2019 but could only be finalized after undergoing various processes and permission from SKMM first.
