Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was today asked about the local 5G network management company, Digital Nasional Berhad and gave a response for him, he said that the company and also the ownership of the network frequency will be examined and re-evaluated.
He said that this is because the ownership of the 5G network spectrum owned by DNB is done non-transparently. Because of that, the Prime Minister wants the RM11 billion contract awarded to telecommunications equipment supplier company Ericsson to be re-evaluated, and to ensure that the awarding of any contracts for the country's infrastructure is done transparently.
Digital Nasional Berhad was introduced under the auspices of former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in 2021 and aims to coordinate the development of local 5G network technology, a significant change when before that it had been agreed that a consortium of companies would be developed under local telecommunications companies.
In fact, previously, the granting of spectrum to DNB under the business capital of a single provider has also raised various questions.
So far, companies such as Yes, U Mobile and Unifi have already come up with their 5G network plans. Whether the re-evaluation of Ericsson's contract will have any effect on their offering is not yet known.
