Bill Gates: Global Temperature Rise Cannot Be Stopped, But...

There are bad predictions from Bill Gates. According to him, the world will not be able to achieve the goal of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement to limit global warming to a maximum temperature increase of 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to the pre-industrial era.

Gates made his fortune launching Microsoft, but has since become passionate about philanthropy and climate change. He owns nuclear innovation company TerraPower and investment firm Breakthrough Energy to support climate change innovation. The good news, innovation thrives.

"The pace of innovation is definitely accelerating even though we will neither reach the current timeline nor avoid going beyond 1.5 temperatures," Gates wrote in response to a question about how well the world is responding to climate change.

Quoted by us from CNBC, Gates is not alone in his views. A report in late October from the United Nations Environment Program predicted the same.

Gates also said messy climate mitigation efforts would slow progress being made in improving the human condition. Despite his gloomy outlook, Bill Gates tries to be optimistic. "I still believe we can avoid a bad result," he said.

For example, the development of a sophisticated nuclear reactor built by the company TerraPower, has successfully used liquid sodium as a coolant and uranium as an environmentally friendly fuel source.

"We're making tremendous progress," Gates said. TerraPower's first plant is slated to be built in Wyoming and to be completed by 2030. "This (technology) can make a major contribution to the climate challenge because it is low cost and highly safe," Gates wrote.

On the other hand, plants and animals are responsible for 19% of emissions. To that end, Bill Gates has supported several companies that make synthetic meat products including Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods.
