Boeing Showcases Cargo Plane Concept That Is Hard To Detect By Radar

The F-22 fighter jet and the B-21 Raider bomber both have in common that they are difficult to detect by radar. The design of the wing, and the air vents for the engine are more hidden to reduce the cross section of radar waves. The F-22 has the same radar cross section as a small bird. But the hard-to-detect radar technology may also be used in future cargo planes.

According to The Warzone report, Boeing has shown a concept model of a cargo plane that is difficult to detect by radar. This is achieved through the blended wing body (BWB) design where the aircraft body itself functions as an airplane wing. Boeing has previously tested the X-48 model on a small scale with a BWB design for passenger aircraft.

The most notable difference between the X-48 and this concept is that the engine design is now in a body like the B-21 Raider and the body is more square. On the X-48 the engine pod is placed outside the body at the rear of the aircraft similar to the A-10 Thunderbolt II configuration. The square nose design is similar to the F-117.

Although the concept was created for a cargo plane, The Warzone felt it might have a secondary function as a platform for stealthy refueling aircraft. In the battlefield of the future, fighter jets need to refuel and it is useless if they are difficult to detect by radar but refueling planes are easily detected by the enemy.
