Data of 235 Million Twitter Users Sold at RM9

The data of around 235 million Twitter users was sold on the dark web this week at a price of just $2 after being converted from cryptocurrency. The information sold is in the form of account name, email, phone number, number of followers and when the account was opened by the account owner.

Passwords are not leaked but through this database various important information can be used by data buyers for the purpose of stealing identities or stealing other accounts on social media. This is not the first time Twitter has experienced data leakage issues. This time it happened because of a weakness in the API system used by Twitter.

The number of affected users is high because Twitter only has around 450 million users. The issue of data theft and leakage has become increasingly serious lately. The only way to be safe is to change your password regularly and use a password that has a long number of characters.
