Discord Introduces Streaming With AV1 Codec Via NVIDiA GeForce RTX4000 Graphics Card

AV1 video codec is an open source codec that can be used by any platform for video streaming or live streaming if you have a computer with enough processing power to use it

Recently, Discord has updated their application with AV1 codec support for live streaming purposes on the platform. If it had previously used the H.264 codec, the use of the AV1 codec is expected to reduce the amount of internet speed required to stream at 4K high resolution at 8Mbps only.

This function, which is being introduced gradually, will only be supported on computers that are currently using NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4000 graphics cards first.

AV1 is supported on other graphics cards as well such as AMD Radeon RX 7000 and also Intel Arc, but it seems that for now, AV1 support is introduced on the latest series of NVIDIA graphics cards first to test its effectiveness.

Discord also says that the software will automatically detect the use of the graphics card and will set the use of AV1 or H.264 codecs without requiring input from the user. It's also worth noting that high-resolution streaming is only a feature available to Discord Nitro subscribers for now.
