February 2023 Viral Occurs Once in 823 Years, Really?

Viral on social media the narrative stating that February is similar to 2023 only occurs once every 823 years. According to information circulating on broadcast, February 2023 has 4 Sundays, 4 Mondays, 4 Tuesdays, 4 Wednesdays, 4 Thursdays, 4 Fridays, and 4 Saturdays. Is the fact so?

Prof. Dr. Thomas Djamaluddin, MSc, an astronomer and astrophysicist from the Space Research Center of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) discussed this on his Instagram account @t_djamal. We have also asked permission to quote the post.

According to him, it was simple math about calendars which were then twisted as if they were strange or unnatural. It's not true that February this year is special compared to other years.

"Every year basithoh (short year) the number of days in February is 28. That means, 28 days = 4 x 7 days. During a month every day of the week (Sunday to Saturday) repeats 4 times," he said.

"So it is precisely February like in 2023 that often happens. Every 4 years it happens 3 times, that is, every year the number cannot be divided by 4," he continued.

This will also happen in 2021, 2022 and 2023. This will also happen in 2025, 2026, 2027 and so on. In conclusion, information on conditions similar to February in 2023 only occur once every 823 years is incorrect.
