Google Employees Wonder Top Employees Join Layoffs

Unmitigated, 12 thousand Google employees worldwide have been laid off, around 6% of the total employees. Various questions came to Google's internal circles, especially regarding employees who excelled or had just been promoted, but they still got hit.

In fact, Google employees have been preparing for possible layoffs for some time, but they questioned the criteria. The reason is, some of the employees who were laid off had worked at Google for a long time or had just been promoted.

As we quote from CNBC, so far in the US, employees have been laid off across business units including Google's Chrome, Cloud and experimental units. Several employees in the artificial intelligence division were also laid off.

Google's leadership promised to provide an explanation about this layoff, but it was considered not satisfactory. Layoffs are considered to be arbitrary and detrimental to employees, with confusing criteria.

"How are layoffs decided? Several high-performing employees were removed from our team. This negatively impacted other Googlers who saw someone with positive reviews, a promotion, still get laid off," one employee asked.

"What metrics were used to determine who was laid off?" "Was the layoff decision based on their performance, scope of work or both, or something else?" so another question.

There are also many questions raised about how Google, whose income is so high and has not experienced any difficulties, means that it is still superior in its field, holding layoffs for 12,000 employees. "This is unacceptable for a company that generated $17 billion in profits in the last quarter," said Parul Koul, executive chair of Alphabet Workers Union.
