Do you remember Fuchsia OS? It is a new Google operating system that is being developed from the ground up including a kernel without relying on Linux like Android now. We have been reporting on the development of Fuchsia since 2016. The initial interface was then revealed in 2017, and day by day the development of this operating system is growing.
It was first tested on the first generation Pixelbook. A new interface was then introduced, Apple veterans then joined the Fuchsia team, Samsung is also involved in this development and may replace Android for their devices, and to make sure Android users don't feel weird - Android apps will also be supported as usual as Apple includes support iOS apps on macOS.
Since the last two years, this operating system development site has been active and it began to be used on Nest Hub 2018 with the expectation that it will continue to be the operating system for Google connected devices including Nest Mini and others.
Now, 9to5Google reports that in 2023 Google will focus more on the development of Fuchsia OS. Google is said to be recruiting more developers to make this project a success. Sources also stated that Fuchsia might be getting ready to be officially announced to the public.
During the Google I/O 2019 event, Google executive Hiroshi Lockheimer stated that this new operating system is for experimentation and trying out new ideas. While one of the developers of Fuchsia stated, Fuchsia is not a replacement for Android – but rather the source codes that allow other products to be built such as operating systems for smartphones or for connected devices.
The Google Nest Hub 2018 I'm using now is already running Fuchsia OS. It doesn't provide any new user experience, as it's just basic code that runs in the background to make sure the Nest Hub's “operating system” can function normally.
