Earlier this morning, it was found that Malaysian user data was being sold on a forum, saying it was obtained through Maybank, Astro, and even SPR.
Since the report, Astro and Maybank have issued comments each stating that they often ensure user data is safe, and are investigating the allegations.
Further to that, now the Ministry of Communications and Digital has issued a statement, saying that the government is taking this alleged data leak seriously.
The government's initial investigation found that the Maybank account number displayed on the website was invalid and non-existent - because the transaction could not be carried out.
As for the data that is said to be from Astro, it is said that it may be present from an incident in the past 2018. At that time, Astro said the data involved involved Astro IPTV customers. However, it has not yet been fully confirmed whether it is related or not.
The investigation regarding EC data leakage will be submitted to the National Cyber Security Agency for further action.
