Much has been said about vehicles with self-driving functions that will soon be widely introduced. Recently, Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that they will introduce vehicles with self-driving function DRIVE PILOT.
According to a press release issued by Mercedes Benz, EQS series vehicles as well as S-Class in 2024 will come with the DRIVE PILOT self-driving function which has already been confirmed to reach SAE Level 3 standards.
With this level of self-driving, users can allow the vehicle to drive itself if all the necessary conditions have been met. Even when in self-driving mode, the individual still needs to sit in the driver's seat.
This announcement was made when the Nevada government has confirmed that the DRIVE PILOT function meets all the necessary criteria to ensure the safety of vehicle passengers, other vehicles and individuals on the road.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the DRIVE PILOT self-driving function can be used on certain highways in Nevada, and is in the process of getting permission to use it in California.
More interestingly, Mercedes-Benz also confirmed that any accidents that occur when the DRIVE PILOT function is used will be borne by them.
Interestingly, Mercedes expects that they will introduce these vehicles in the United States around the end of 2023, and may be shown more widely next year.
