Moments of US and Russian Astronauts Get Together Celebrate New Year 2023 in Space

The moment of New Year's Eve is not only celebrated by people on Earth, but also by astronauts and cosmonauts who are on duty in outer space.

The seven Expedition 68 crew also celebrated the new year 2023 in a simple way on the International Space Station (ISS). Of course, there are no fireworks like what happens on the mainland, only wearing Christmas-themed T-shirts, hats, also putting up a New Year tree and decorating the station.

They chat with each other and don't forget to take selfies to capture the moment of togetherness on duty in space.

"Just like at home, we have a tradition here to put up a New Year tree and decorate the interior of the Space Station to celebrate the new year. Today, we show how to do it in zero gravity," said Roscosmos cosmonaut Segey Prokopyev quoted from Space, Monday (2/1/2023).

In the video message, there are other cosmonauts, namely Dmitry Petelin and Anna Kikina, who put up small ornaments and occasionally somersault in zero gravity conditions.

Cheerfulness was also shown by the other 68 crew consisting of three NASA astronauts, Josh Cassada, Nicole Mann, and Frank Rubio. Meanwhile, another Koichi Wakata from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) celebrated Christmas and New Year 2023.

On the other hand, the seven crew members are still surviving and looking for problems with the detection of liquid on the space station since last December 15. The plume that NASA recorded looks like snowflake-like particles.

The burst came from the back of the Soyuz MS-22 capsule and is thought to be a coolant leak.

Russia promised in January it would decide whether to send rescue Soyuz or bring back its three crew members. NASA has also communicated with SpaceX plans to bring its astronauts home.
