Ouch! Twitter was sued for arrears in office rent of USD 136,250

Twitter was sued for being in arrears in paying the rent of one of its offices in San Francisco, United States of America in the amount of USD 136,250.

The lawsuit was filed by Columbia Reit - 650 California LLC as the owner of the Hartford Building, the building where one of the floors is occupied by Twitter. On December 16, the landlord said Twitter would default on rent if payment was not received by December 21, 2022.

In a lawsuit filed in San Francisco district court last week, the landlord said Twitter failed to comply with the request.

Twitter itself currently occupies the 30th floor of the Hartford Building, a skyscraper located on the edge of San Francisco's Financial District. In 2017, Twitter signed a seven-year lease, as quoted by CBS News, Monday (2/12/2023).

Elon Musk as the new owner and CEO of Twitter is indeed making massive savings since buying the social media company for USD 44 billion.

According to a New York Times report last month, Twitter has also not paid rent for its global offices for several weeks, including its headquarters in San Francisco's Civic Center.

The company with the bird logo was also sued by Private Service Group, LLC, which accused Twitter of refusing to pay for two charter flights using a private plane in October, worth USD 197,725 or around Rp. 3 billion.

Musk's efforts to save money on Twitter are somewhat extreme. He even fired the cleaning service, which made employees complain that the office was smelly and dirty, and turned off one of Twitter's data centers.

Overall, Musk is reportedly seeking to slash $500 million in non-labor spending from Twitter's budget. The former richest man in the world has indeed opened up about Twitter's not-ideal financial condition.
