You want better tasting milk? If so you need to buy milk sold in glass bottles like the old days. Scientists from North Carolina State University conducted a study and found that cardboard cartons used as milk containers changed the taste compared to those stored in glass bottles.
A study was conducted to see if there was a difference in taste between milk in cardboard cartons, plastic bags, plastic bottles, and glass bottles. Then the milk is stored and a taste test is done on the first, 5th, 10th and 15th day with participants giving a taste score for each milk sample.
Milk stored in cardboard cartons received the lowest score and in glass bottles received the highest score. After analysis, the scientists found that the cardboard carton absorbed the taste of the milk and at the same time the chemical compounds from the cardboard were absorbed by the milk which changed the taste. Taste changes also occur in milk in plastic containers but to a lesser extent
So if you want to find the best milk, buy it from a store that still sells it in glass jars. Researchers also suggest that milk sold in schools stop using cardboard cartons if they want to encourage milk consumption among children.
