It has become a tradition, at the start of every year, scientists at the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (BAS) will reset the Doomsday Clock or the Doomsday Clock. How is the fate of Earth?
The reset will take place on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, and will be streamed live on the BAS website, or on their Facebook and YouTube pages. They will announce whether the time on the iconic Doomsday Clock has changed or not.
What Is Doomsday Clock
The Doomsday Clock is a symbolic clock that represents the possible risk of a man-made global catastrophe. This symbol has been managed since 1947 by BAS member scientists at the University of Chicago, United States of America (US).
Meanwhile, BAS is an organization consisting of experts and scientists whose task is to assess scientific progress and its risks to humans. They created the Doomsday Clock as a reminder to mankind not to do any damage that destroys the Earth.
Doomsday Clock 2022
BAS stipulates that the hands of the Doomsday Clock in 2022 will still be the same as in 2020 and 2021, which is 100 seconds to midnight.
"The Doomsday Clock remains at 100 seconds to midnight," said Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists President, Rachel Bronson, in January last year.
The timing is based on the ongoing and dangerous threats posed by nuclear weapons, climate change, disruptive technologies and COVID-19. All of these factors are exacerbated by a poor information ecosphere, which undermines rational decision making.
Will the hands of the Doomsday Clock in 2023 still be the same, backwards, or forwards faster? Keep in mind, the most important thing in determining the Doomsday Clock is how we, as humans, maintain the continuity of this Earth.
