Twitter just auctioned hundreds of furniture and decorations from its headquarters in San Francisco, United States. These items sold for fantastic prices, including a sculpture of the Twitter bird logo which sold for USD 100,000!
The blue bird logo statue is the most expensive item sold at the auction. The auction was conducted by Heritage Global Partners and included 631 items.
The items being auctioned ranged from office equipment such as tables, chairs, televisions and video conferencing equipment. There are also items that are somewhat unique, such as coffee makers, pizza ovens, and various Twitter-themed decorations.
Heritage Global Partners did not disclose how much this sale made. But the BBC and SFGate noted some other eye-catching sales such as:
A three meter high neon sign sold for USD 40,000 .
A giant plant pot shaped like the '@' symbol as high as 1.8 meters sold for USD 15,500.
Conference table made of reclaimed wood which sells for almost USD 10,500 .
The luxury espresso machine from La Marzoco sold for $13,500, less than half its retail price.
Several other unique items being auctioned include kegerators, aka beer refrigerators, rotisserie ovens, and 'high performance task chairs', as quoted from The Guardian, Thursday (19/1/2023).
This auction was carried out as a massive savings made by the new owner of Twitter Elon Musk. In November, Musk said Twitter's revenue had plummeted and the company's financial condition was so bad it was on the verge of bankruptcy.
The latest report from Platformer also states that Twitter lost 500 clients who stopped advertising on the social media platform. This resulted in Twitter's revenue plunging 40% from the previous year.
In addition to auctioning furniture in the office, Twitter is also trying to save money by laying off thousands of employees. Musk is also in arrears in paying the rent for the building occupied by Twitter in several countries.
