Twitter is sued again for being in arrears on building rent

Twitter was again sued for not paying the rent for the building. This time it was the turn of Twitter's headquarters in London, England and San Francisco, United States of America to have problems.

The lawsuit against Twitter in the UK was filed by Crown Estate, the body that manages King Charles III's property portfolio. In a lawsuit filed in Britain's high court, the delinquent rent payments were linked to offices near London's Piccadilly Circus.

According to a spokesperson for Crown Estate, the legal action follows previous contact with Twitter regarding arrears on rent for its office space at 20 Air Street, London. The spokesperson added that discussions between the two companies were still ongoing.

In addition to its headquarters in England, Twitter was also sued for not paying rent for its headquarters in San Francisco. The lawsuit was filed by building owner Sri Nine Market Square LLC.

According to the lawsuit, Twitter has not paid rents of USD 3.36 million for December 2022 and USD 3.42 million for January 2023. Twitter's own headquarters are at 1355 Market Street where they are eight floors for a 42,000 square meter office area, as quoted from Bloomberg, Wednesday (25/1/2023).

This is not the first time Twitter has been sued for not paying rent for a building. Not long ago, Twitter was sued by the owner of a building at 650 California Street which is also located in San Francisco for late paying rent of USD 136,260.

Not long ago, Singaporean Twitter employees were evicted from their offices located in the CapitaGreen building because they had not paid their rent. But they were allowed back into the office after Elon Musk paid the rent for the building.

The termination of the building lease payments was ordered by Musk directly for reasons of savings. Musk ordered his employees not to pay Twitter associates until he had reviewed all of the company's expenses.
