ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence (AI) based chatbot created by OpenAI has just broken records. This chatbot already has 100 million active users in just two months after its launch.
According to data from Similarweb, the number of ChatGPT monthly active users (MAU) doubled within one month. As of December 2022, ChatGPT had around 57 million monthly active users, which then jumped to 100 million in January 2023.
In addition, the ChatGPT site also received 13 million daily unique visitors per day at the end of January 2023, up from 6 million daily unique visitors in the previous month. This achievement makes ChatGPT the fastest growing application of all time.
100 Million users in two months is certainly an impressive achievement. In comparison, it took TikTok nine months from its global launch to gain 100 million new users. Meanwhile, Instagram has only been able to reach it for 2.5 years to get this achievement.
"We can't remember an application that can scale this fast," said analysts from investment bank UBS, as quoted from Markets Insider, Friday (3/2/2023).
"In 10 years of following the internet universe, we can't think of a faster path in consumer internet applications," he continued.
The popularity of ChatGPT cannot be denied, because this AI chatbot can be very helpful even though the system is still not perfect. ChatGPT can be used to create articles, essays, jokes, poetry, and job application letters with only text input.
ChatGPT can respond to users in a natural-sounding, human-like language that's easy to understand. The responses given are usually in the form of paragraph text, not a series of links and articles like on Google Search.
But that doesn't mean all the answers shared by ChatPGT are true. This chatbot has several weaknesses including answers that are sometimes inaccurate, potential for plagiarism, bias, and others.
ChatGPT and OpenAI can attract not only new users, but also investors. Not long ago, the company co-founded by Elon Musk received billions of dollars in fresh funding from Microsoft.
Not long ago OpenAI launched a premium subscription plan called ChatGPT Plus for USD 20 per month. This paid plan brings a number of exclusive features including the option to access the ChatGP platform at any time, as well as get a faster response from the chatbot.
