The latest update to the Discord app has a bug that affects a number of Nvidia graphics cards, including the RTX 3080 and RTX 3060 Ti.
The bug in question makes the Nvidia graphics card lower its memory speed by up to 200MHz. This bug was spotted by a number of Reddit users and the Linus Tech Tips forum, and Nvidia responded immediately to the bug.
In the meantime, the way to overcome this bug is to download the GeForce 3D profile manager. Going forward Nvidia promises to provide a driver update to fix this problem and it will be spread over the air, we were quoted as saying from The Verge, Thursday (2/2/2023).
The Discord update that caused this problem is actually useful for RTX 40 GPU users, as it adds streaming features with the AV1 codec. However, for users of the RTX 30 series, it actually caused problems, while RTX 40 users did not experience this memory slowdown.
RTX 40 users who have updated their Discord app can stream using the AV1 codec with resolutions up to 4K and frame rates up to 60fps, with Discord Nitro 8Mbps.

Meanwhile, Discord users whose GPU is not compatible with the AV1 codec will use the H.264 codec. Then because Discord uses P2P streaming, the video will automatically be converted to H.264 for users who can't watch videos with the AV1 codec.
Previously there was also Netflix which started supporting the AV1 codec, and it could be tested on certain devices. AV1 takes advantage of modern processors to provide better video quality and compression.
In testing, Netflix said AV1 could produce better video quality than other codecs with the same bitrate.
But of course the advantages are not only that, but also economical in terms of spending funds. AV1 is an open source codec, which means Netflix doesn't have to pay royalties to use it.
This codec also has support from various industries and is maintained by the Alliance for Open Media which includes Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Netflix, Samsung, and many others.
