Google started testing several artificial intelligence (AI) based products to compete with ChatGPT. The products being tested include a new chatbot and integrating the chatbot into Google Search.
Previously, Google was reported to be struggling with the popularity of ChatGPT made by OpenAI. Google CEO Sundar Pichai even declared 'code red' and accelerated the development of AI products so that Google could launch 20 AI products this year.
Now CNBC has detailed information about the product being developed by Google. One of them is a chatbot called 'Apprentice Bard' which uses Google's LaMDA technology.
Google management reportedly asked the LaMDA team to prioritize the development of ChatGPT competitors, they were even banned from attending meetings that were not related to the project.
According to the CNBC report, Apprentice Bard has the same look and function as ChatGPT where users can write questions and get responses in written form.

CNBC also saw a sample of the answers provided by Apprentice Bard. This chatbot can provide answers to recent events, in contrast to ChatGPT whose knowledge is limited until 2021.
Google is also testing a new Search page that uses a question and answer format. The experiment shows a front page that has five questions replacing the 'I'm feeling lucky' button below the search bar, as quoted from Engadget, Wednesday (1/2/2023).
After the user writes his question, the page will generate a human-like answer. Underneath the answers are recommended follow-up questions as well as normal search results like on Google Search, including links and headlines.
Apart from that Google is also working on a project called 'Atlas' under its cloud unit. Detailed information about this project is not yet known, but CNBC says Atlas is still included in the 'code red' project.
It is not yet known which of Google's AI projects will be launched first. Google AI boss Jeff Dean said that as a company with a great reputation, Google should be more careful in responding to ChatGPT.
