There is a data analytic software that plays a big role for Ukraine in dealing with the Russian invasion of its country, and the software's name is Palantir.
Palantir is a data analytics company responsible for all the targeting of Ukrainian attacks on Russian artillery and tanks in Ukraine. This was acknowledged by Alex Karp, CEO of Palantir, when explaining his company's role in Ukraine.
Karp's statement is one of his biggest, especially since Palantir's services were used by various US intelligence agencies, we were quoted as saying by Reuters, Thursday (2/2/2023).
Karp is also one of the global company bosses who have met with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. They even opened an office in Ukraine.
Deputy prime minister of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov also revealed Palantir's role at an event held by Palantir in Davos, Switzerland, last January. According to him, Palantir's technology allows Ukraine to monitor Russian military movements in Ukraine in real time.
The way it works is, Ukraine collects information on troop movements and enters this information into the Palantir software, which will then provide suggestions for decision making.
Palantir itself markets its software as a product that can provide suggestions on the use of resources (in this case troops), with data from satellites and various information on social media to estimate the position of enemy troops.
Even so, Palantir is very careful before they use AI in their software, because there are many things that must be considered before using AI in such software.
"There are huge ethical issues on the battlefield. If you use an algorithm to make a military decision and it goes wrong, who is responsible?" Karp said.
In addition to Ukraine and the United States, Palantir recently also received a contract worth 75 million pounds with the British Ministry of Defence.
