Zuckerberg Warns Meta Managers, Work Harder or Quit

In November 2022, Mark Zuckerberg, as the CEO of Meta, laid off around 11,000 employees. It seems that the employee cuts don't end there, because 2023 has been proclaimed by Zuck as the year of efficiency.

In the latest news, Zuckerberg asked managers and directors not to just sit around managing subordinates. They are expected to give a large individual role or just leave the company.

As we quoted from India Today, Zuck wanted to speed up the company's decision-making process by removing several layers of middle management. Managers were asked to do more work.

"I don't think you want a management structure where it's just managers managing managers, managing managers, managing managers, managing people doing work," he said.

Zuckerberg also wanted to increase efficiency by flattening the organizational structure and eliminating multiple layers of middle management to make decisions more quickly, less hampered or wordy.

He is reported to have asked several middle managers and directors to switch to individually contributing jobs or simply quit. It's even possible that these managers will go back to coding and the like, just like their subordinates did.

It is not yet known whether there will be another layoff at Meta's body. Several reasons underlie layoffs some time ago, for example deteriorating economic conditions. In addition, Meta is also less smooth in several business lines.

By 2022, Meta's metaverse business will lose up to USD 9.4 billion. Burning money, slowing growth and declining stock prices then forced Meta to make efficiencies, including by laying off employees.
