Meta Quest 3 Announced – Now 40% Thinner

Meta Quest 3 was announced by Meta yesterday a day after Mark Zuckerberg hinted at the launch of "something exciting" happening. It's just an announcement showing the latest augmented reality (AR) headset design without any detailed information about the specifications.

First of all Meta Quest 3 is now 40% thinner through pancake lens technology. This at the same time makes it lighter to offer more comfortable wear for longer periods. The screen resolution is also higher but to what extent it is higher is also not shared by Meta.

Next it uses the mysterious Snapdragon XR chip which is more powerful but most likely Snapdragon AR2 Gen 1 which is also used by Oppo MR Glass which was launched yesterday. The most notable change is that the Touch Plus controller supports the more immersive TruTouch haptic system and lacks the circular coils typically used to track movement.

There's a row of cameras on the front of the Quest 3 that allow it to track 10 fingers and hand movements. Then VR games can be played without physical controls. All over 500 Quest 2 apps can also be played in Quest 3. Full color transparent mode can also be used. The Meta Quest 3 will go on sale in the fall for $500 (~RM2306) apiece.
