Apple Is Testing M3 Max Chip With 16 Core CPU And 40 Core GPU

What is the next evolution in the world of Apple SIlicon chips? According to Mark Gurman writing for Bloomberg, Apple is testing an M3 Max chip equipped with a 16-core CPU and a 40-core GPU. On the CPU, as many as 12 cores are dedicated to high processing and 4 more cores are for efficiency to save battery consumption.

In the machine being tested, Gurman said it was equipped with 48GB of RAM, but in the real model, a larger memory size will be offered. In comparison this year's M2 Max chip comes with a 12-core CPU and 38-core GPU. The regular M3 chip is expected to come with an 8-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. Meanwhile, the M3 Pro comes with a 12-core CPU and an 18-core GPU,

Unlike the M2 Max which uses 4nm technology, the M3 Max chip will be produced using TSMC's 3nm technology. This certainly provides an improvement not only in processing performance but more importantly in saving battery consumption.
