Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was officially launched at the Snapdragon Summit event. The flagship chip for this Android device is confirmed to maintain the use of 4nm technology and the aperture is 3nm as in the Apple 17 Pro.
To improve performance, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 uses eight with a 1+5+2 Kryo CPU cluster configuration and the latest Adreno GPU. The main core of the Cortex-X4 CPU works at a speed of 3.3GHz, 3x CPU Cortex-A720 at 3.2GHz, 2x CPU Cortex-A720 at 3.0 GHz and 2x CPU Cortex-A520 at a speed of 2.3 GHz.
With this, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 offers an increase in CPU capacity of up to 30% but with power savings of up to 20% and NPU capacity jumps up to 985. At the GPU level, a performance increase of 25% is offered with a reduction in energy consumption also up to 25%. For applications with ray tracing features, this latest generation chip brings a processing increase of up to 1.5X.
Speaking of graphics capabilities, Qualcomm says they are aiming for console-like performance on smartphones. The Unreal Engine 5.2 with Lumens is fully supported along with Global Illumination support which until now was only enjoyed on consoles and PC.
Frame rates up to 240FPS in the first can be achieved through the same Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0 technology with DLSS supported on NVIDIA GPUs. 4K 60Hz screen supported or connection to external screen up to 8K. This is done with the help of Snapdragon Game Super Resolution.
Emphasis is placed on artificial intelligence capabilities just like the Snapdragon 1 Elite. It runs the Llama-2 AI model directly in the device for virtual assistants, processes Stable Diffusion model images in seconds and performs image addition features like Generative Field in Photoshop directly from the chip without the need for an internet connection.
With the Snapdragon X75 5G modem, a fast 10Gbps internet connection can be enjoyed along with the WiFi 7 network. Other specifications are camera support up to 200MP, Snapdragon Audio and bluetooth 5.4.
Xiaomi 14 is confirmed to be the first device with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and it was launched on October 26. ASUS, Honor, iQOO, MEIZU, NIO, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, realme, Redmi, RedMagic, Sony, vivo, and ZTE are also confirmed among the manufacturing companies that will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip in their output devices in the near future.
