Sunbird App, Developer Behind Nothing Chats Also Pulled Back

Last Saturday, the Nothing Chats application was launched to Nothing Phone (2) users in the United States, Canada, the UK and Europe allowing users to use iMessage on Android devices. This application was withdrawn after less than 24 hours of introduction due to serious privacy and security issues.

Nothing built Nothing Chats together with Sunbird, which is a developer trying to bring iMessage to Android like Beeper for free without any subscription. Recently, Sunbird has also withdrawn their application on the Play Store and all beta users can no longer use this service due to the same security and safety issues.

Among the problems found is that every message and media file is not encrypted and easily accessible by anyone. Their servers do not use HTTPS and only HTTP, and user data stored in Firebase is also not encrypted.

The iMessage service on Android usually requires users to log in with an Apple ID account to a Mac Mini server owned by the developer. Beeper gives one user a single Mac device, while Sunbird claims to be able to handle multiple users on a single Mac.
