We are in the last week of 2023 and it is the best time for best devices 2023 list is announced to the readers. A total of 137 reviews have been published and 60 of them are smartphones. Which smartphone is the best? Let's start first with the phone category below RM1000.

Let's start first with the Best 2023 Device at a price below RM1000 because with the economy still reeling and at any time it can go awry, there are many who don't want to spend big. Therefore, devices under RM1000 are considered purchases that do not have a significant impact on the wallet compared to other categories.

Choosing criteria

Price must be below RM1000 before promotion.

6-inch screen and above.

Performance is still satisfactory even for entry-level chips

Using at least Android 12

Has been officially launched in Malaysia in 2023.

Third Place – Realme 10 4G

At a price of RM999, the Realme 10 4G is hardly worth recommending in this category. It's a bit more expensive than the C55 but there's a reason why you should pay more. First of all the Super AMOLED 90Hz screen which is better than competitors who still use LCD. Under sunlight the screen can still be seen clearly.

This is paired with a MediaTek Helio G99 chip which is more powerful than the two devices above. The power on the GPU is slightly improved on the G90 although the CPU core is still the same as the G88. Another advantage is the 8GB RAM memory that can be added up to 16GB virtually and the use of faster UFS 2.2 storage. Long lasting 5000 mAh battery with 33W charging. The downside is that it still runs Android 12.

Specifications: 6.4” SAMOLED FHD+ 90Hz, MediaTek Helio G99 (6nm) (2X Cortex-A76 2.2 GHz + 6X Cortex-A55 2.0 GHz), Mali-G57 MC2, 8GB RAM, storage up to 128GB, 50+2 MP (Main), 16MP (Selfie), 5000 mAh (33W), Android 12.

Price: RM999 (8/128GB)

Second Place – Tecno Pova 5

In second place is the Tecno Pova 5 which is the first Tecno product to enter the list of top three devices at the end of the year. The device is equipped with a 6.78″ IPS LCD 120Hz screen, powered by a MediaTek Helio G99 chip, memory up to 16GB RAM (virtual) and storage up to 256GB.

The battery is 6000 mAh which lasts a long time and supports 45W charging which is faster than the one used in iPhones. The operating system used is Android 13 so the owner gets the latest features. It also has stereo speakers and a 3.5mm audio jack. It beats the Realme 10 4G because with the same specifications it is offered at a cheaper price.

Specifications: 6.78” IPS LCD FHD+ 120Hz, MediaTek Helio G99 (6nm) (2X Cortex-A76 2.2 GHz + 6X Cortex-A55 2.0 GHz), Mali-G57 MC2, 8GB RAM, 256 GB storage, 50+AI MP (Main) , 8MP (Selfie), 6000 mAh (45W), Android 13.

Price: RM699 (8/256GB)

Champion – iQOO Z7X

The iQOO Z7X is the champion of the sub-RM100 category as it retails at RM999 for the 8/128GB version and comes with 5G support unlike the two devices above. In addition to 5G, it is also equipped with a powerful Snapdragon 695 chip and is matched with 8GB RAM memory and 128GB UFS 2.2 storage which is fast for this class.

Memory can be increased up to 16GB virtually when needed. The strength of the Z7X is a giant 6000 mAh battery that supports 80W fast charging which as far as we can remember has never been offered on a device under RM1000. This is why we crown the iQOO Z7X as the champion.

Specifications: 6.64” IPS LCD FHD+ 120Hz, Snapdragon 695 (6nm) (2X Cortex-A75 2.0 GHz + 6X Cortex-A55 1.8 GHz), Adreno 619, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, 50+?MP (Main), 8MP (Selfie) ), 6000 mAh (80W), Android 13.
