Blackberry announced the appointment of John Giamatte as their new CEO effective immediately. Giamatte previously held the position of president of the company's cybersecurity business after joining Blackberry in 2021. He replaces John Chen who resigned last month.
It was also announced that Blackberry will not continue the plan to separate the business securities business and the Internet of Things that has been announced before. After ceasing to manufacture its own smartphones in 2016, licenses to manufacture them by third parties were discontinued last year. Blackberry is now focusing on the securities business especially for the business sector.
