Gobind Singh Deo Appointed Digital Minister

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today reshuffled the cabinet, leading to changes in several ministries and ministers who lead it. One of them is the Ministry of Communications and Digital.

Now, the Ministry of Communications and Digital will be split into two. Minister Fahmi Fadzil will remain at the helm of the Ministry of Communications, while Gobind Singh Deo will head the Ministry of Digital. Meanwhile, Datuk Ugak, son of Kumbong, assumed the position of Deputy Digital Minister. He previously held the position of deputy minister of Special Duties and Sabah Sarawak Affairs.

Previously, Gobind Singh Deo had led the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia in 2018, and at that time had reduced the price of broadband, and focused on the introduction of 5G.

In any case, the work area and full division are still unknown for now. But, we can probably expect agencies like MDEC to start operating under the Digital Ministry after this. With this division as well, it is expected to make it easier to focus on improving the local digital economy than before.
